Earline Roseberry of Hattiesburg, age 78, died at
her home after a long illness on Dec. 16, 2009. Visitation will be held on
Wednesday, Dec. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will take place on
Dec. 23, at 1:30 p.m., in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home.
Miss Roseberry grew up near downtown Hattiesburg
and always had a love for the preservation of downtown and historic Hattiesburg.
She was also a strong supporter of William Carey University in Hattiesburg.
A lifelong member of First Baptist Church of
Hattiesburg, she taught a children's Sunday school class for many years, sang
in both the adult choir and the Visionaires senior adult choir and was involved
in the Homebound Ministry. She was an active volunteer for the First Baptist
library and the First Baptist Woman's Missionary Union. At the time of her
death she was also a member of the Truth Sunday school class.
A retired teacher, she was an active
volunteer for the Hattiesburg Area Historical Society and the Hattiesburg
Public Library. She was also a member of the Kappa Delta Pi teacher honorary
society.
Miss Roseberry graduated from Mississippi
College with a degree in education and went on to get her master's degree in
education from Peabody College, now known as the Vanderbilt Peabody College of
Education and Human Development. She began her teaching career in the public
schools in Natchez and Laurel and then in Galveston, Texas. Returning to
Hattiesburg, she went on to teach upper elementary students at Jeff Davis,
Thames and Camp Elementary Schools retiring in Nov. of 1985.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
Doris Pace and Earl Roseberry of Hattiesburg. She is survived by her brother
and sister-in-law, James and Marcia Roseberry of Hattiesburg; a nephew, Jim (Tracy)
Roseberry of Hattiesburg; and two nieces, Rachel Roseberry Murphy and Melinda
Roseberry (Bob) Gholson of Laurel.
She is also survived by three great nieces:
Mary Katherine Gholson (Peter) McKelroy of Oxford; Rachel Elizabeth Gholson and
Marcia Beth Murphy of Laurel ; and two great nephews: Jim Lindsey Roseberry and
Reagan Caves Roseberry of Hattiesburg.
"My sister was the type of person who
truly had a servant's heart," Miss Roseberry's brother, James Roseberry,
said. "She did the types of things that did not bring praise or
recognition while quietly contributing to the lives of others."
